On Friday, 21 November 2025, the US FAA issued a security NOTAM cautioning civil aircraft operators about potential dangers in Venezuelan airspace. The FAA says the NOTAM is the result of increased GNSS interference in Venezuelan airspace and military drills beginning in September. US operators must now provide 72 hours prior notice to the FAA before flying through Venezuela. As part of an order issued in 2019, US airlines are already prohibited from flying to/from Venezuela. Look out for the new release! This is the first volume of “Corsaires du ciel”, set just a few months before a battle that would leave its mark on the French Army. This brand-new comic published by Éditions Paquet looks very promising, combining many of the ingredients of such a work on aviation: high-flying aerial scenes, of course, but also heroism, tension, rivalry… The plot takes place in the autumn of 1953, during the so-called Indochina War, in North Tonkin – the northern part of present-day Vietnam. At the time, French troops were battling with the men of a certain…

Boeing has recommended operators of the MD-11 “suspend flight operations while additional engineering analysis is performed.” This follows findings during the initial investigation of the crash of UPS flight 2976 on Tuesday, 4 November. Boeing says it is making its recommendation “in an abundance of caution.” Boeing assumed responsibility for the MD-11 program after its merger with McDonnell Douglas in 1997. On this week’s episode of AvTalk, we discuss what we know so far about the crash of UPS Airlines flight 2976 in Louisville. Air traffic controllers and other FAA employees supporting the NAS have been working without pay since the shutdown began at the beginning of October. The plan to reduce the number of allowed flights in major markets was first floated on Wednesday, 5…

On this week’s episode of AvTalk, we discuss two statistically improbable events — an airACT 747 veered off the runway and struck a vehicle before ending up in the sea and a United Airlines 737-8 MAX struck something at 36,000 feet. We walk through the most likely scenario at this point. Lack of communication (literally) leads to a diversion in Omaha, the NTSB releases its preliminary report on the runway overrun in Roanoke, Boeing is moving up to production of 42 737s per month, and the US Senate advances a bill that would add requirements for ADS-B In usage and…

The cracked windshield of a Boeing 737 MAX-8, operating as UA1093, has captured attention across the aviation community. Was space debris to blame? How’s your day going? Hopefully better than that of the flight crew of last Thursday’s United Airlines flight UA1093. Having departed from Denver (DEN) bound for Los Angeles (LAX), the roughly two year old Boeing 737 MAX 8 was established at a cruising level of 36,000 feet on October 16th, when the flight crew experienced a sudden crack across the cockpit windshield. The crew decided to divert to Salt Lake City (SLC), descended to approximately 26,000 feet,…
