Late last week, our custom alert for “A380s near Tarbes” pinged with an interesting movement. MSN 114, the 100th A380 built and formerly operated by Malaysia Airlines, turned its transponder on for the first time in nearly three years. Why is it MSN 114, but only the 100th A380 built? Manufacturer serial numbers are assigned early in the production process and changes can result in aircraft being built out of sequence. For instance, the first A380 originally destined for FedEx was assigned MSN 037 before the airline canceled their order in 2006. A380 MSN 114 MSN 114 first flew in…

This is a first! The civil security base in Nîmes-Garons (Gard department) will open its doors on Saturday, October 4, 2025, with a flyover by the Patrouille de France to mark the event. There is plenty to see in Nîmes and the surrounding area: the amphitheater, Maison Carrée, Pont du Gard, Château de Montfrin, beautiful farmhouses, and more. But tourism isn’t the only attraction in the department, which is also home to aviation. Proof of this can be found in the activity at Nîmes-Garons Civil Airport, which is home to the city’s Civil Security Base, in the direction of Arles—not…

We’re excited to introduce our new dual-band receiver for better flight tracking in the United States. Our new dual-band receiver combines an ADS-B 1090 MHz and UAT 978 MHz receiver in one unit, making it easier to track even more aircraft in the US.Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) signals broadcast on 1090 MHz are how we track the vast majority of flights on Flightradar24. Due to the volume of aircraft in the United States, Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) broadcasting on 978 MHz was developed as an alternative primarily for general aviation aircraft operating only below 18,000 feet. With more than 200,000…

Building on the success of the 707, the Boeing 727 entered commercial service on February 1st, 1964 with Eastern Air Lines. Nearly 1,900 units were produced between 1963 and 1984, when it was replaced by newer models of the Boeing 737 and the all-new 757. Over the years, passenger airlines began to retire their Boeing 727s from service, to be replaced by more modern aircraft. This meant that several Boeing 727s became available for use, with cargo airlines keen to incorporate the workhorse into their fleets. At the time of publication, around 15 Boeing 727-200s are part of cargo airlines…

I have always been fascinated by Ryanair, or more likely by Michael O’Leary. No interview with him has ever been dull. Whatever you have to say about him as a person, you can’t deny that he has built one of the most remarkable airlines in Europe and arguably a business model that has inspired carriers around the world. His Irish charm, blunt honesty, and ability to unlock a deal have made him the envy of aircraft manufacturers. He famously was quoted in March 2025 saying “I don’t care who makes them, whether it’s Boeing, Airbus or Comac. As long as…

On 31 August, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen was en route from Warsaw to the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv aboard a luxaviation Dassault Falcon 900. During the initial approach to Plovdiv, the pilots reported an “issue with GPS” and requested an alternate approach. The pilots coordinated with the controller, who provided instructions for an Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach and the aircraft landed without incident. So where did a multi-day discussion of GPS jamming come from? Jammed up — where did the headlines come from? The aircraft carrying von der Leyen and other European Commission officials and journalists departed…
