Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is marking its 80th anniversary with celebrations throughout the year and now with a special livery on one of its A330s. A330-300 registration LN-RKR wears a stunning blue livery with with large SAS titles and Scandinavian flags. The aircraft’s tail is decorated with a stylized “80” and the phrase “Celebrating 80 years.”
SAS history
2026 marks the 80th anniversary of the formation of SAS out of airlines in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Det Danske Luftfartselskab A/S (DDL), Det Norske Luftfartselskap A/S (DNL) and Svensk Interkontinetal Lufttrafik AB (SILA) combined to coordinate intercontinental flights, first launching Stockholm-New York flights on 17 September 1946. The first flight by LN-RKR wearing the special anniversary livery also departed for the New York area.
The airline now boasts a fleet of nearly 150 aircraft, including 8 A330s and 5 A350s with additional A350s on order.
